We use dry-aging, a process that is more expensive and less common than wet-aging.


Our beef is shipped frozen in a completely curbside recyclable insulated package via UPS, directly from here in Idaho to anywhere in the continental U.S! We use dry ice to keep it cold during transit so it arrives on your doorstep nice and cold!

All of our beef comes from high quality cattle raised in the Northwest on rangelands and rolling hills of family farms and ranches. Seasonally, they are supplemented with locally raised hay. All of the producers that provide cattle to Painted Hills Natural Beef follow our strict protocol for animal handling and welfare. Participating ranchers sign legal affidavits guaranteeing their adherence to our standards.


USDA Prime Beef is the top grade of beef available. Painted Hills Natural Beef Prime program offers beef with abundant marbling imparting exceptional tenderness, juiciness and flavor. This is beef you would find in a high end steakhouse or restaurant, and yet you can prepare it for yourself at home. The cattle that go in this program never receive added hormones or antibiotics, which slows the process down creating a superior product. Finished on a balanced diet that includes grain, hay and nutritional supplements we ensure the cattle are well cared for.


Painted Hills Natural Beef USDA Choice Beef is the second highest quality grade of beef. You still enjoy high quality beef raised without the use of hormones or antibiotics, this beef is just not quite as marbled as Prime. Very forgiving to cook with, Choice beef is tender and flavorful. With our beef you will find the same delicious flavor profile throughout all cuts, from ground beef to tenderloin. Our Choice beef is served at restaurants across the country, winning blind taste tests over and over. These cattle are ranch raised, and finished on a veterinarian managed balanced diet that includes hay and grain.


Painted Hills Grass Fed Beef was started due to customer requests. Shoppers were asking meat departments for grass fed beef, meat departments called us and we responded with a new program in 2011. The same high quality cattle we use for our USDA Prime and Choice grade programs become Painted Hills Grass Fed Beef, just raised on the ranches and never fed grain.


Our 100% grass fed and finished beef is raised in the U.S.A. by family farmers focused on using rotational grazing practices and creating lush, green pastures free of chemicals and pesticides. They are never fed grains or given antibiotics!


This is what truly sets our beef sticks apart. We use old world methods of fermenting our sticks so they are shelf stable without the use of chemicals or questionable ingredients. Virtually all other similar snack stick products use GMO corn-based citric acid encapsulated in hydrogenated oils to process their products. Thanks to this fermentation process, each stick contains gut-friendly probiotics!


Our 100% Grass Fed Beef Sticks are made beef from happy, healthy cows. They are NEVER fed grains. Unlike most companies using the term "grass fed" even though their products are NOT grass finished - we actually care about the quality of life the animals enjoy. Truly pasture-raised cows are, not surprisingly, much healthier than grain fed cows and contain higher levels of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. They also have a much more favorable omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acid ratio which is important because when omega-6 levels are too high inflammation is often the result.

1. Our beef is actually 100% grass fed and finished while others often claim "grass fed" only to finish the cattle on grain for the last few months of their lives. This process of grain finishing is enough to negatively alter the biological makeup of the animal, causing a more inflammatory product with fewer vitamins and nutrients.


We're glad you asked because we use organic dextrose for a very health conscious reason. First, our dextrose is derived from 100% organic cassava root (also known as tapioca). It is NOT used as a sweetener at all. We use a very small, trace amount (about 1/4th of 1 gram per stick) for the sole purpose of activating the fermentation process. By the end of the ferment there is little to no dextrose remaining in the stick as it has been consumed by the beneficial probiotic bacteria. Third party lab analysis has confirmed there are 0 grams of sugar in our beef sticks*
