Microsoft released a total of three service packs for Office 2003 throughout its lifecycle. Service Pack 1 was released on July 27, 2004,[18] Service Pack 2 was released on September 27, 2005,[19] and Service Pack 3 was released on September 17, 2007.[3] Mainstream support for Office 2003 ended on April 14, 2009, and extended support ended on April 8, 2014,[20] the same dates that mainstream and extended support ended for Windows XP.[21]
Office 2003 was the last version of Microsoft Office to include fully customizable toolbars and menus for all of its applications, the Office Assistant, the ability to slipstream service packs into the original setup files, Office Web Components, and the Save My Settings Wizard, which allowed users to choose whether to keep a locally cached copy of installation source files and several utility resource kit tools. It was also the last Office version to support Windows 2000. A new picture organizer with basic editing features, called Microsoft Office Picture Manager, was included.
These crash reports are used to isolate the relatively small number of problems that cause the great majority of issues. Fixes for these problems are then issued collectively in Office service packs. Office 2003 SP1 is the first such rollup for Office 2003, which initially shipped in October 2003.
Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 2 contains significant security enhancements, in addition to stability and performance improvements. Some of the fixes included with SP2 have been previously released as separate updates. This service pack combines them into one update.
Deploying Service Packs (SP) using Patch Manager Plus is a four step process: Scan and identify the missing Service Packs, Download the required service packs, define, and deploy the configuration. As a first step, you can scan your network for the missing service packs, then the missing service packs are downloaded and stored locally, which can be installed on to the systems. A configuration once defined can be used any number of times to deploy service packs to any number of systems. The status of the service pack deployment is made available in the reports for later verification.
Office 2003 Web Components lastest release includes compatibility with Windows Sharepoint and the new Microsoft Office System 2007, Im not sure why microsoft didnt just released Office 2007 Web Components but at least we are happy to know that it wont have issues with the lastest office installment. The most misleading thing about this release is that even thought is compatible with office 2007, office latest installment cant create web content for IT, instead users are forced to use Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 Enterprise Edition (expensive) rather than Windows SharePoint Server (free).
